“Herman the Worm” Lyrics

Sitting on a fence post chewing my bubble gum,
Playing with my yo-yo, doo wop doo wop doo wop doo wop!
Along comes Herman!
Who!?
Herman the Worm!
And he was this big.
Herman, what happened?
I ate a tomato. Gulp.
Oh, Herman!

Sitting on a fence post chewing my bubble gum,
Playing with my yo-yo, doo wop doo wop doo wop doo wop!
Along comes Herman!
Who!?
Herman the Worm!
And he was this big.
Herman, what happened?
I ate a tomato and an onion. Gulp.
Oh, Herman!

Sitting on a fence post chewing my bubble gum,
Playing with my yo-yo, doo wop doo wop doo wop doo wop!
Along comes Herman!
Who!?
Herman the Worm!
And he was THIS big.
Herman, what happened?
I ate a tomato and an onion and a carrot. Gulp.
Oh, Herman!

Sitting on a fence post chewing my bubble gum.
Playing with my yo-yo, doo wop doo wop doo wop doo wop!
Along comes Herman!
Who!?
Herman the Worm!
And he was THIS big.
Herman, what happened?
I ate a tomato and an onion and a carrot and a pizza! Gulp, gulp, gulp.
Oh, Herman!

Sitting on a fence post chewing my bubble gum.
Playing with my yo-yo, doo wop doo wop doo wop doo wop!
Along comes Herman!
Who!?
Herman the Worm!
And he was this big.
Herman, what happened?
I burped! Burrrp!
Oh, Herman!

Description

If you’re looking for a great song to sing with your children and friends, “Herman the Worm” might be the right choice! This song is perfect for an awesome camping trip with the whole family or during long road trips. It’s funny, catchy, and very special!

But, what’s so special about Herman the Worm? Besides being a song, it’s also a great singing game for children! Its lyrics allow the little ones to get caught up in a story about Herman, a very particular worm.

In this version of the song, Ricky Raccoon is spending a lovely day outside playing with a yo-yo while sitting on a fence and chewing bubble gum. As this is happening, along comes Herman the Worm, but… He looks a bit strange! He seems bigger than usual!

Ricky, intrigued by Herman’s look, asks him “What happened?”, and Herman, without hesitation, replies that he just ate a tomato! No wonder he looks so big!

The same situation repeats itself a few more times. Each time, Herman the Worm looks and bigger, and bigger. That’s how Ricky finds out that Herman also ate an onion, a carrot, and a pizza. He sure has a strong appetite despite being a small warm, don’t you think?

As your little one accompanies Ricky in its adventures with Herman while singing the song, make sure to also check out the video! This is an excellent way to practice pronunciation in English and also to learn new English vocabulary with music.

So, how can your child practice English with this song?

Since this singing activity has so much action, you can take advantage of it by learning and practicing action verbs in English with your little one. To do this, after listening and singing the song a few times, go over the verbs that imply actions like “sitting,” “chewing,” “playing,” or “eating”.

You can reinforce these concepts by representing the actions through dancing. Try mimicking the actions while singing the song. This will help your little one to grasp the words’ meaning, and will make learning more fun!

If you’re playing with a big group of people, you could take turns to sing each part of the song, making it into a fun memory game! Each person will have to remember which items Herman has eaten and then add a new one for the next person to remember. The objective is to have a good time and to remember as many items as possible!

As an extra practice, go over the names of food , vegetables , and fruits in English , and make the song even longer by adding your own food items to the lyrics! Maybe Herman could also eat a pineapple, a cake, or broccoli!

Enjoy this memory game in English with your whole family and have fun learning English naturally!
