About the Song

Learning about prepositions might be a bit tricky, there are so many of them that their uses can get mixed up! However, prepositions are ones of the most important language tools in the English language, and learning them through fun activities might be helpful for young English learners. The song “We’re going on a bear hunt” helps the youngest of the house learn prepositions in a practical way, by showing their meaning attached to fun actions and lyrics.

Prepositions show the relationship between a noun or pronoun, and other elements in the sentence, letting the speaker communicate a more clear idea of what they’re saying when talking about places, time, objects or persons. In the song, your little one will learn more about these useful elements of the English language as they get to join two adventurous children on their quest to find a bear.

The song starts with two young children that embark on a quest that consists of a bear hunt. They start at their house, then, as the song progresses, they face different scenarios and obstacles they have to overcome, and they tell all about this by using prepositions in English. The first one is the reeds, which are so tall that they have to go through it since they can’t go under it or go over it. After they pass the reeds, there comes a big lake. They can’t go over it, or under it, so they decide to swim through it. On the other side of the lake, they encounter lots of mud! It’s probably a swamp. The best course of action is to walk through it.

Then, they discover something even more exciting: a cave! Clearly, they can’t go over it, or under it, so they have to go into it. But inside the cave everything is dark, they can’t see! Suddenly, they sense there’s something else in the cave… And they rush back home the way they came from!

Sing this song for kids and watch its video with your little one, and find out what’s hidden in the cave. Practice the lyrics, and sing along to boost your child’s pronunciation in English. Also, you can read along as you sing, this way your little one will also get to practice vocabulary and grammar in English. As a plus, with this fun exercise in English for kids, your little one will be able to learn more about action verbs in English, like go, swim, and walk.

Now, let’s start this exciting adventure!

“We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” Song Lyrics:

We’re going on a bear hunt.
We’re going on a bear hunt.
Gonna spot a big one.
Gonna spot a big one.
I’m not scared.
I’m not scared.

Oh, look at those tall reeds.
They’re so tall.
They’re so tall.

We can’t go over it.
We can’t go over it.
We can’t go under it.
We can’t go under it.
We’ll have to go through it.
We’ll have to go through it.
Swish, swish, swish, swish.

We’re going on a bear hunt.
We’re going on a bear hunt.
Gonna spot a big one.
Gonna spot a big one.
I’m not scared.
I’m not scared.

Uh oh, there’s a big lake.
Oh!

We can’t go over it.
We can’t go over it.
We can’t go under it.
We can’t go under it.
We’ll have to swim through it.
Splash, splash, splash, splash.

We’re going on a bear hunt.
We’re going on a bear hunt.
Gonna spot a big one.
Gonna spot a big one.
I’m not scared.
I’m not scared.

Ugh, look at all that mud.
So muddy.

We can’t go over it.
We can’t go over it.
We can’t go under it.
We can’t go under it.
We’ll have to walk through it.
Squish, squish, squish, squish.

We’re going on a bear hunt.
We’re going on a bear hunt.
Gonna spot a big one.
Gonna spot a big one.
I’m not scared.
I’m not scared.

Uh oh, what’s that?
It’s a cave.
It’s a cave!

We can’t go over it.
We can’t go over it.
We can’t go under it.
We can’t go under it.
Going to have to go into it.
Step, step, step, step.

We’re going on a bear hunt.
We’re going on a bear hunt.
Gonna spot a big one.
Gonna spot a big one.
I’m not scared.
I’m a little scared.

It’s sure is dark in here.
What’s that in the corner?

I see two big eyes.
I see two big eyes.
I feel one wet nose.
I feel one wet nose.
I feel two sharp teeth.
I feel two sharp teeth.
I know what that is.
It’s a bear!

Let’s get out of here!

Let’s run out of the cave!
Step, step, step.

Quickly back through the mud!
Squish, squish, squish.

Let’s cross the lake!
Splash, splash, splash.

Through the tall reeds!
Swish, swish, swish.

Through the yard, up the stairs, into the house, close the door!
We’re safe.

That’s a close one.

Let’s not go bear hunting anymore!
