Do you want to practice the numbers with your child? Let’s sing the “Ten in the Bed” song! That’s an amazing way to learn counting and math skills while having fun.

Ten in the Bed” Lyrics

There were ten in the bed
And the little one said,
“Roll over! Roll over!”
So they all rolled over and
one fell out

There were nine in the bed
And the little one said,
“Roll over! Roll over!”
So they all rolled over
And one fell out

There were eight in the bed
And the little one said,
“Roll over! Roll over!”
So they all rolled over
And one fell out

There were seven in the bed
And the little one said,
“Roll over! Roll over!”
So they all rolled over
And one fell out

There were six in the bed
And the little one said,
“Roll over! Roll over!”
So they all rolled over
And one fell out

There were five in the bed…

There were four in the bed…

There were three in the bed…

There were two in the bed…

There was one in the bed And the little one said,
“Good night”

About the Song

Learning numbers and counting is an important part in children’s everyday life. Since very early childhood, the little ones start to become aware of quantity and simple equations that later on will become useful in everyday situations, such as telling the time, preparing recipes, buying sweets, etc. From home, you can work on developing those concepts in a natural and easy way for kids.

Ten in the bed is great for young children to start associating numerals with quantity and with their written representation as well. Besides, it is the perfect tool to introduce or consolidate subtraction with no need of any formal explanation. As they enjoy watching the video, they’ll be able to understand that each time the bears roll, there’s one less, and as they listen to the number they’ll see it written in front of the bed.

In addition to using this song to practice math skills, you can also boost your child’s language skills.

You can enhance children’s learning of colors, prepositions of place and vocabulary related to the house by asking simple questions.

For example, you can start by naming the objects you’ve seen in the video, like a bed, a lamp, a basket, a cup, a ball, a flashlight, a map etc. You can ask about the color of each object (“What color is the lamp above the bed?”) ,or about position (“Where does the ninth bear land?” or “Where is the flashlight?”)) And don’t forget to praise them when they do so!

Now, it’s time to sing along with these cute bears!
