Numbers from 1 to 10

Numbers are some of the most useful English words we can learn. Let’s help Teacher Meredith count bananas!

One, two, three, four! Let’s count some more! Learning numbers is an important way for kids to develop the math skills they will need later in life. Numbers hold lots of meanings and can tell us the size, temperature, weight, height, age, and many more facts about the world around us. But first, let’s start with counting!

Counting in English can be fun! To start teaching your child numbers in English, focus on numbers one to ten. Tell him or her to find three toys in the playroom or two eggs in the kitchen. This can help your little ones begin to understand the ways that numbers are a part of their daily lives.

In the video, Teacher Meredith teaches us them!. She’s about to bake a delicious banana cake! But wait! She needs some bananas first! She gets one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten bananas for the cake. Encourage your child to count and sing along with Meredith. Practice counting several times! Have your child hold up their fingers while he or she is counting.

Now ask your child how many candles were on his or her birthday cake last year. How many will be on the cake this year? Why is that? How many friends does he or she want to come to the party? These questions will help your child think about the way a number can be related to age. Numbers are some of the most useful English words we can learn. Let’s count bananas with Teacher Meredith!
