Rain, Rain, Go Away

Enjoy a rainy day singing while playing with friends and learning about the weather in English!

?About the Song

Does your little one like rainy days? Rain makes the plants grow and helps flowers bloom. However, rainy days are not everyone’s cup of tea! The song “Rain, Rain, Go Away” might give you a great idea about what to do on those rainy days!

Rain is a natural phenomenon that’s essential for the lives of human beings, animals, and plants. Tiny drops fall from the sky and help to form ponds, rivers, and lakes. It plays an important role on the planet and it could be a great opportunity for children to start learning about the weather in English. Also, rain is the main subject of this fun nursery rhyme for children! The rhyme is quite old. It dates back to the 17th century, but similar rhymes have been found even before that, like in ancient Greece.

In this modern version, your child will join the group formed by Cowy the Cow, Billy the Chick, Elliot the Panda, Lisa the Cat, Bobby the Dog, and Ricky Raccoon, while they have fun playing volleyball outside their house.

At first, it seems to be a bright, sunny day! The friends are having a blast playing when, suddenly, a big, dark gray cloud covers up all the sky and, just like that, rain starts pouring. Now, it’s difficult to continue playing. The ground is wet and big drops keep falling from the sky.

All the friends seem a bit sad…Of course, they believe their day of fun has been ruined by the rainy weather. They don’t feel like going inside the house to play. So, they stand outside and politely ask the rain to go away and come back another day.

However, the rain is not going anywhere! At last, they decide that it wasn’t going to stop them from making the best out of their day outside. Since they are well and healthy, they keep playing under the rain and end up having fun after all, until the sky clears up and the rain goes away.

A beautiful story, isn’t it? Sing the song with your little one and watch the video a couple of times. It’s a great way to learn words about the weather, not only by using the lyrics but also by looking at the video and describing what you see.

With your little one, practice the colors in English by describing the sky before the cloud comes in. Is it light blue or dark blue? Of course, it’s light blue! You can also mention that when it’s rainy, there are lots of clouds in the sky, this is called a “cloudy” day.

Later, talk a bit more about the rain. Can your child spot the drops that fall from the sky? These drops can be big or small. If the drops are small and fall slowly, then it’s called a “drizzle”, but if the drops are big and fall fast, it’s called “rain.” Weather is so varied and interesting!

Besides being an excellent way to learn about weather and about seasons in English, this children’s song also teaches a valuable lesson: it’s important to make the most out of what we have available. If it’s a rainy day and the weather is not as nice as usual, there’s no need to worry! You and your child can still sing songs and play in the rain while using special clothes such as raincoats and boots.

It’s time now to enjoy the weather and have fun singing this song!
