Prepositions: In Front of, Behind, Between

These prepositions tell us about something’s location: In front of, Behind or Between. Sing about prepositions with Teacher Meredith

??About the Song

What is a preposition? When we study English grammar, we learn that a preposition is a word that connects a noun or pronoun to the rest of the sentence. Some preposition examples include the words “in,” “beside,” “through,” and “into.” As your little ones become more comfortable using English words and phrases that they already know, they will want to be able to express their ideas more fully. That’s where prepositions come in!

Prepositions of place are great words to start practicing, especially for children who have a basic English vocabulary. These prepositions tell us about something’s location: In front of, Behind or Between. So while your children might be able to say the name of their favorite toy, the use of preposition words can help them describe where it is. For example, they can say “My teddy bear is behind the bed” or “My car is in front of the table.” While it might seem daunting to learn preposition words, it’s always fun to practice prepositions with Lingokids!

In the video, Teacher Meredith sings a song about prepositions. She shows us what it means to be in front of, behind, and between. Watch the video several times and encourage your children to sing along. While they sing, they can use one of their favorite stuffed animals too, just like Teacher Meredith!

As children learn prepositions, English can become more fun! Your little ones will be able to start describing the world around them and seeing the ways that English is a part of their everyday lives. You can practice at home by playing a prepositional phrase game. Tell your child to stand in front of the refrigerator or behind the sofa. This will keep them active and help make grammar more exciting.

Learning prepositions in English really can be fun! C’mon and sing about prepositions with Teacher Meredith!
