How many planets are the in the solar system? How many fish live in the ocean? Asking your children “how many” questions will help pique their natural curiosity. It can also encourage them to start counting the objects they see around them. As kids begin to count and learn numbers, they also start to grasp other mathematical concepts. By counting in English, they can practice saying a number and begin to understand it’s meaning.
Watch the video to take a trip to the sea! What animal do we find there? An octopus! Did your child already know the word octopus? Have your child sing along with the numbers counting song so that they can practice saying numbers in English. Sing the song several times so that they can memorize the names of the numbers. Take a closer look at the video and then practice other English words your little one might know. Can your child say the English names of any other animals? What colors are they? Is the octopus happy or sad?
Help your child make up a few “how many” questions of their own. Then encourage them find answers by reading books or doing some counting of their own! Learning to ask and answer their own questions helps children become independent learners who are curious about the world. It will also help them feel pretty proud of themselves, too!
