Mama, I wanna be in a band

Communication is an important skill! Learn to use pronouns and verbs in English in simple sentences with these fun rock song

About the Song

Verbs and pronouns are two of the most important parts of speech. After all, they talk about actions and who carries these out. With the song “Mama, I wanna be in a band”, children will learn some of the most common verbs in English and how to use them in the first person.

Learning the correct use of pronouns and verbs during childhood is a great way to ensure that a child learns how to communicate effectively. This will help the little ones achieve academic success, and will also lead to healthier relationships with friends and family.

But, how can parents help their children learn grammar at home?

It’s easy! You can start by using music to help your little ones have a richer vocabulary and also to make better use of pronouns and verbs in a sentence. Singing songs is not just a great bonding activity for a family, it’s also the perfect opportunity to practice language skills.

Music is fun and makes learning easier. This song is perfect even for the youngest of the house since it’s very easy to understand and to remember. In the song, Cowy the Cow is the lead singer of a great rock band giving a concert in a big stage.

As Cowy sings, she mentions to her mother her desire to be in a band, using the verb “want” to talk about her desires as she says “I wanna be in a band, I want to have a band”. Then, she uses the verb “can” to mention all the things she can do, like playing the flute, playing guitar, and playing the piano.

With these lyrics, your little one will be able to practice also how to talk about the things he or she can do. Can your child play the piano? Can she or he sing? As you practice the song, encourage your little one to make sentences in English using these verbs.

Another great exercise that you can do is to watch the video with your child and practice naming the objects they can see. For example, explain to your little one that speakers are devices that play music aloud, then make simple questions in English, “Where are the speakers?”, and allow your child to look for them and tell you their location.

You can also ask: “What does Cowy use to sing?” Well, a microphone, of course! Or, who is playing the flute? Cowy’s grandma is playing the flute! With this simple exercises, your little one will also get to practice asking and answering questions in English.

Finally, remember to practice the name of the musical instruments with your little one. You can ask what color is the piano, and ask your little one to describe the drums. This is a fun way to put more vocabulary into practice with just one song!
