Humpty Dumpty

Have a wonderful time learning vocabulary about the bedroom with this new version of Humpty Dumpty!

Humpty Dumpty Lyrics

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the King’s horses
And all the King’s men
Quickly put Humpty together again.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a bed.
Humpty Dumpty fell on his head.
All the King’s horses
And all the King’s men
Gently put Humpty together again.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a shelf.
Humpty Dumpty fell off the shelf.
All the King’s horses
And all the King’s men
Softly put Humpty together again.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a drawer.
Humpty Dumpty fell on the floor.
All the King’s horses
And all the King’s men
Slowly put Humpty together again.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a pillow.
He was safe because he sat low.
All the King’s horses
And all the King’s men
Were happy that Humpty was safe once again.

About the Song

Have you heard about Humpty Dumpty before? You probably have! After all, this lovely character has the starring role in this well-known nursery rhyme for kids!

But, how much do you know about this fun children’s song?

Humpty Dumpty’s origin is not clear, but the first recorded version of the rhyme comes from England and dates back to the eighteenth century. Then, the English author Lewis Carroll introduced this famous character as an anthropomorphic egg on his story Through the Looking Glass, an image that has become popular appearing on several depictions of Alice in Wonderland as well.

However, as it tends to happen with different songs for children, many versions of Humpty Dumpty have appeared. This is one of them!

In this version of the popular classic, your little one will get to learn more about a very common -and important!- topic: bedroom vocabulary!

Learning vocabulary about the bedroom is usually an easy task. It’s common to mention the bed, shelves, or the bedroom lamp, and this is something that all parents can use to their advantage to help their children to learn new words.

For example, with the song, your little one will listen to Humpty Dumpty’s story while learning more about the environment in which it takes place, which is its house!

Humpty Dumpty is playing with Bobby the Dog and Billy the Chick, who are disguised as knights, the King’s men that help defend the kingdom. As they are playing, Humpty chooses to sit in different parts of the bedroom.

Humpty sits on a wall, but it was too tall and he fell. Then, he sat on a bed, but it wasn’t a regular bed, it was the top bunk bed! Sadly, Humpty fell again and the King’s men rescued him one more time.

Then, Humpty sat on a shelf. As fate would have it, he fell again! But as usual, the King’s men were there to help. The story repeated itself and he sat on a drawer, but as this was also quite tall, he fell!

Finally, tired of falling, Humpty sat on a pillow that was very low on the ground, and everyone rejoiced since Humpty was finally safe!

Once you’ve listened to the song a couple of times with your little one, check out the video again and repeat the lyrics together! This is a fun way to practice pronunciation in English.

Next, as you watch the video together, you can try naming the different objects and colors you can see in the video to improve vocabulary even further! What color is the shelf? Ask your little one and help them give you the right answer.

You can also use the song as a comparison point to practice the names of the objects your little one has in their bedroom. Do they have a shelf? What about a lamp?

Have fun practicing new vocabulary words in English with this fun classic song with a twist!
