Days of the Week

Make learning the days of the week in English easier with this fun song!

“Days of the Week” Lyrics

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Get up early and go to school.
Thursday and Friday too
The days of the week!

Doo doo doo

Saturday and Sunday,
Won’t you please come and play?
Saturday and Sunday,
It’s the weekend!

Doo doo doo

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.
Now we start again.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Get up early and go to school.
Thursday and Friday too
The days of the week!

Doo doo doo

Saturday and Sunday,
Won’t you please come and play?
Saturday and Sunday,
It’s the weekend!

Doo doo doo

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.
Now you know the days of the week.

About the Song

The “Days of the Week” song makes it super simple for young children to learn the days of the week in English!

Time is a tricky concept for young learners to grasp! It’s not always easy for them to understand how the time passes and how we are used to measure it. But, through songs, difficult concepts like the calendar can be easier to comprehend. Usually, there’s a lot of memorization involved when it’s time for children to learn about days and time, especially for toddlers who are not going to school yet! With music, the learning process becomes simpler and more enjoyable, which is a huge aid for memorization.

This lovely song about the days of the week is perfect for children of all ages, but even more so for those who are starting preschool, since they will get to learn to differentiate the days when they have classes from the free ones. In the song, your child will accompany Cowy the Cow during a whole week! Cowy has a pretty good routine established: she wakes up early, at 7am, every day from Monday to Friday to go to school!

These days where she goes to school are known as “weekdays” and they’re five: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday! Then, Saturday and Sunday come, these two days are referred to as “weekend”, which are usually the two free days of the week, perfect to play and have fun!

On these days, Cowy usually wakes up at 9am, early enough to enjoy the day but having a bit more of sleep time to feel well rested! Also, with this song, your little one will get to learn the order of the days of the week. It’s important for children to know things, like that Wednesday comes after Tuesday but before Thursday, and so on, so they will start having an idea about the passage of time.

To learn this, check out the video and explain to your child that usually the week starts on Monday and ends on Sundays. If you’re up for a challenge, you can practice this by playing the days of the week hopscotch game that appears in the video. Grab a piece of chalk and paint the days on the floor to play!

Once you’ve had enough practice about the days, you can check out the video for more vocabulary in English!

Visit Cowy’s bedroom and talk about the parts of the house and bedroom vocabulary. Can you see the alarm clock? These devices are useful to wake up so we can get to school on time! Also, can your little one spot Cowy’s backpack? That’s were Cowy keeps the school supplies she needs for class.

Next, it might be an excellent idea to practice numbers in English while looking at the calendar. Talk about the months of the year, schedules, and how to tell time in English.

Learning the days is a valuable lesson for kids, one that will help them throughout their whole lives! Let’s start!
