About the Song

Children love folk songs! Usually, these types of songs are cheerful and have catchy tunes that the youngest ones like a lot. The song for childrenA Hunting We Will Go” is a great example of this. This lovely tune is perfect for children’s language development, since it helps them build early literacy skills by practicing lots of words through fun rhymes.

Rhymes are great for young learners. They are really fun and easy to practice. Rhyming is very important in early childhood, especially when talking about language acquisition. Through rhymes, children learn the different sounds of the language. This makes it easier for the little ones to know how a language works, and through rhymes they even can learn the nuances of pronunciation. This will prove to be very helpful once they’re older, when it’s time to start speaking and communicating their own thoughts.

This nursery rhyme in particular is very helpful for the younger ones in the house. In it, there are several different animals mentioned in fun and quirky situations throughout its verses. This will help the little ones learn about animals in English
and, at the same time, it’s a great practice to learn new words by picking the ones that match the sound of the name of the animal. In the song there’s a fox who’s put in a box, and a fish who is put in a dish. Also, a cat that goes in a hat, and a goat that’s put in a boat. Finally, there’s a bear that gets put in a chair, a sheep that goes in a jeep, and a snake that goes in a cake.

Your little one will get to practice the sounds of some of the vowels in English
by singing these word pairs. This is a step forward to learn correct English pronunciation, and to have more fluency while speaking. Additionally, by rhyming, your little one¡ will get to make predictions about what word should come next. This is quite helpful for reading, and even for acquiring learning skills at a young age.

Practice the lyrics of this song a few times with your little one. Once your little one has mastered this song, you can try adding your own verses. Try adding some new animals and have fun looking for words that rhyme with these! You can also check out the video together, and then discuss what’s happening there with some follow-up questions. Ask your little one the colors of the animals, or where the animals are located. Are they in a jungle, or a desert? Also, you can ask him or her to describe the different objects that appear on the video. “What color is the boat?” or “What color is the chair?”. These questions will help your little one pay more attention to the video, and will boost his or her communication skills.

“A Hunting We Will Go” Lyrics:

A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go.
We’ll catch a fox and put her in a box.
And then we’ll let her go.

A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go.
We’ll catch a fish and put him in a dish.
And then we’ll let him go.

A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go.
We’ll catch a cat and put her in a hat.
And then we’ll let her go.

A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go.
We’ll catch a goat and put him in a boat.
And then we’ll let him go.

A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go.
We’ll catch a bear and put him in a chair.
And then we’ll let him go.

A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go.
We’ll catch a sheep and put her in a jeep.
And then we’ll let her go.

A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go.
We’ll catch a snake and put him on a cake.
And then we’ll let him go.
