Do your little ones enjoy making crafts? Crafts are all about being creative and having fun. But there’s another side to craft ideas for kids, these can be a great asset for children during their early ages, and even act as an important aid for those learning English as a second language, and even to help native English speakers fix basic concepts like the numbers, like the Pizza Game! This craft is an awesome idea to help children learning numbers and their values.
What Materials Do You Need?
The materials are very common and easy to find, and you probably already have most of them at home. Let’s take a look at them:
- Glue
- Pen or marker
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Red dot stickers
- EVA foam sheets in three colors: red, white and beige or brown
Now, Let’s Look At The Steps To Make This Craft
- Since this craft is about making a pizza, the first step is to make the base! Grab a sheet of beige EVA craft foam and draw a big circle on it, as big as the sheet. Then, cut it. Now the base almost ready!
- The second step is to draw the slices. Once you’ve cut the base circle, grab a ruler and a pencil and divide it into six equal parts. When you have all the lines done, grab a marker, go over the lines with it to make them clearer.
- Now, onto the third step: write down the numbers! Grab the marker again and your freshly divided pizza base. Write the numbers from 1 to 6 on the slices, always write one number per slice. Finally, the pizza base is ready!
- Step number four! It’s time to make the cheesy part of the pizza and to add some tomato sauce. For the tomato sauce, grab the red sheet of EVA foam, and draw a circle a bit smaller than the pizza base circle.
- Then, cut it. After, grab the white sheet of EVA foam and draw another circle, this time one smaller than the red one. This will be the cheese for the pizza.
- For the sixth step, place the smaller circle (the cheese) on top of the larger circle (tomato), and glue them together. Don’t forget to make sure they are centered. Once they’re glued, divide them into six slices using the pencil, just like the base of the pizza, but without writing down the numbers or using the marker.
- You’re almost done! For step number seven, grab your red dots, these will be your tomato slices. Place one red dot on the first slice, and two on the second, and then three, and so on until you have a slice with six red dots. Follow the same pattern for the numbers there are on the pizza base.
- The eighth and last step is to cut the slices! Grab your tomato, cheese, and tomato circles and cut the six previously marked slices. Finally, let’s play!
How Do You Play?
The objective of this crafty game is for the little ones to learn the numbers and the quantities they represent.
To play, take the slices off the pizza base, and mix them up! Then, ask your little ones to put the slices in the correct places, matching the number of tomatoes on each slice, to the numbered spaces in the pizza base.
If your little one has the slice with one tomato, where would that slice go? That’s right! On the pizza’s base, over the slice with the number one (1) written on it!
