Activities to learn about tools

These activities to learn about tools are not only entertaining, but also practical! Build your vocabulary in English as you work on a fun project.

What does a bridge and a TV have in common? Well, it’s easy! Both needed tools to be built! Tools are great instruments that help people create all the gadgets used on their daily life. It’s important to learn about tools because they are not only used to build, but also to repair what’s broken. For children, learning about tools also represents independence, since it helps them learn more about the world and about being self-sufficient. With these activities to learn about tools your little one will not only have fun, but also he or she will start acquiring some knowledge that will be helpful in their future life.

Tool box for kids

1. Tools sets for kids. From the small tool boxes made with plastic, to the real, functional tools sized for little kids, tool sets are perfect for the little ones to start learning the names of tools in English. For babies and toddlers, is better to go with the plastic toolkits. These have a varied assortment of tools for the child to start playing while using his or her imagination and, of course, being made of plastic, they are really safe to use. As your child grows up, you can trade the plastic toys for child-sized tools that will help your little one build their own personal projects. These tools are real, and they can be used to build all sorts of projects. Oftentimes, you will find all the safety accessories along with the tools so your child will be protected while having fun playing.

Build your own toy

2. Build your own toy! There’s no better way to learn than through practice. So, if you want your little one to learn more about tools in English, it would be a great idea to build something. Pick a project, and build it with your child. You can use your tools, while your little one uses child-sized tools fit for kids. When you’re building your project, go over the names of the utensils in English, like hammer , saw , or file , and practice their pronunciation. This will improve your child’s vocabulary, and will also be the perfect opportunity to strengthen the bond you have with your child. Also, you don’t have to build a toy if your child doesn’t want to, you can build a table, or a picture frame, or even build your own birdhouse. Just use your imagination!

Gardening for kids

3. Gardening. If you have your own garden, then you can ask your little one to help you take care of it! Landscaping and gardening is not easy, it requires a lot of patience and hard work to finally see some great results. Ask your little one to pick up some gardening tools and help you with the garden chores. You can ask your little one to help with simple chores like using a rake to gather the leaves during autumn, transporting them on a wheelbarrow, or using a shovel to make a hole in the ground to plant something. This will bring you closer together, and it’s a good way for a child to learn responsibility while also learning different words in English to enrich his or her vocabulary.
