Horizon 2020 & Lingokids: Welcome To The Future Of Playlearning™ In English!

As you may know, in 2018, we received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No 811853.

This might sound complicated, but it’s really quite simple. It essentially means that the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program believes Lingokids is one of the coolest, best apps for children and has decided to support our project with €1.2 million!

We are extremely proud of this achievement, so we want to tell you all about it and how we’re working to build a better platform for kids, parents, and caretakers. Let’s go!

Horizon 2020: What We’ve Done

Personalized Path for Learning

We know that children don’t all learn at the same pace or in the same way. With the funding we received from H2020, our main objective was to improve the adaptive capabilities of our Customization Engine and create a more comprehensive, flexible adaptation strategy that our previous, more linear one. Our app now offers a much more personalized learning path for each child, which adapts to his or her learning level, preferences, and abilities.

To do this, we built two customization systems to adapt content to each user based on factors like slot system (a personalized system based on recommendations) and age. We also track each child’s individual progress, unlocking new learning units only when they have successfully completed activities in the current unit, and based on their unique progress.

More Tools for Teachers and Educators

We believe technology can not only transform the way students learn, but also how teachers teach, so we upgraded our CMS for educators , including new functionalities to optimize in-class use and management! This way, teachers and educators can use Lingokids as a tool that complements their daily lessons and help their students learn in English with our playlearning™ method.

Parents Community

Have you checked our Parents Community and content for the parents’ area? This was also made possible by our H2020 funding! In this community-driven section, you can find the latest parenting news and tips, get advice on the best ways to use the Lingokids app, and participate in discussions about important topics with other families.

Our Lingoteam

Last, but not least, we are also super proud of the team we’ve built! Lingokids is full of amazing team members working hard to break down language barriers and take our app to all corners of the world. That’s why we also used our H2020 investment to build a bigger and better team, with talented, creative professionals from a variety of areas, such as computer engineering and marketing.

Horizon 2020: What’s Coming

App Testers

After all of these improvements, we couldn’t stop there. To be the best kids app, we need real testers to use it and give us their impressions—and by real testers, we mean kids, of course! That’s why we’re launching an A/B testing pilot, in which 3,000 users will try out the enhanced Lingokids app.

In-Class Pilot

As we mentioned before, Lingokids isn’t just used by children at home. Our app is a platform for teachers, too, so we’re also launching an in-class use pilot in Spain, other EU countries, and overseas!

EdTech Events

Here at Lingokids, we’re eager to learn more about our sector and new trends, communicate the improvements we’re making, and network with other leading brands and companies. In that spirit, we’ll be boosting our participation in key EdTech summits and events.

Now it’s time for you to tell us: What do you think about the improvements we’ve made thanks to our Horizon 2020 funding? Is there anything new you’d like to see in our app?

We really value our users’ opinions and ideas, so help us out by sending your request to https://help.lingokids.dev.boream.com/hc/en-us/requests/new or letting us know in the comments!
