This one of our fav Christmas activities for kids! You can’t get much more festive than a gingerbread house. And it doesn’t have to be a super complicated one. It’s the participating that counts. There’s plenty of easy recipes to follow out there, and here are some of our favorites: BBC, Sally’s Baking, and Flavor Blender.

Baking with your kids is one of the simple pleasures of life, and you’re sure to make lots of memories doing it. Hang up some festive decorations and put on some Christmassy tunes for an unforgettable afternoon of fun. And at the end of it all, you’re left with a magnificent work of art (and an undoubtedly magnificent mess in the kitchen) to showcase to your family and friends. Or perhaps, you’d rather do what Santa Clause would… and dig in!

Reindeer ornaments

This quick and easy Christmas craft for kids takes under 30 minutes but will leave you and your children with a long-lasting warm and fuzzy festive feeling.

All you need is some plain Christmas ornaments, thin paintbrushes, and washable paint (we know how mucky kids can get)—preferably brown, black, and red.

When it’s all set up, first off, help your little one to dip their thumb in the brown paint, or whatever color you want your reindeer to be. Next, carefully press the thumb onto the ornament, making the
reindeer’s head.

Leave this for a little while to dry, and then when it’s ready, use your small paintbrushes to add antlers, eyes, and a big red nose. Rudolph would be very proud!

Christmas Games to Play With Kids

Find Santa’s reindeer

This festive twist on the traditional scavenger hunt is bound to keep you and your little ones entertained for hours on end.

Print out some little reindeers or see if you can find any small reindeer toys at the store. When your kids aren’t looking, hide the reindeer around the house, making sure they’re all tucked away nice and cozy. Depending on how old your children are, you can make the hiding spaces more easy or difficult to find.

Then, challenge your kids to find as many as they can. You can even add an extra festive incentive—perhaps for each one they find, they’re rewarded with a chocolate coin. You’ll have a wonderful time with your
deer family.

Christmas charades

A free and easy way to entertain. What’s not to love? Mix up traditional charades by giving them a festive twist. We’re thinking of Christmas carols, decorations, and movies.

This is a simple, yet fun-filled game for the whole family, and has no age limit. It gets everybody involved and you’re bound to end up giggling.

“Pass the parcel”

Kids love candy and unwrapping presents, so the popular British Christmas game “pass the parcel” really is the best of both worlds. A couple of weeks in advance, find a festive, child-friendly gift and a whole lot of wrapping paper. Wrap the gift as many times as you want, putting a piece of candy between every layer. The sweetest Christmas activity for kids!

When the game begins, play music and have the kids pass the gift around. When you stop the music, the child holding the gift unwraps one layer. Eventually, one of the children will reveal the center of the package—the true gift. It’s exciting because the kids don’t know which layer will reveal it.

Avoid fragile gifts because the present will get tossed and dropped repeatedly.

Stick to the theme by planting candy canes and chocolate coins between the layers, so everyone comes away with something. The more layers you add, the longer the game will last. Try not to use the same wrapping paper twice in a row because it might confuse the kids.

And, of course, find some Christmas music to set the festive mood. If you want everyone in the game to win, then the music can be stopped at calculated moments.
